: jonathan serrie live for us. jonathan, thanks. a little bit of north of there along virginia's coast, many beaches are now closed and amtrak has cancelled trains from richmond to washington, d.c. to newport news near the state's coast. let's get to steve harrigan live near virginia beach, virginia tonight. steve, how are conditions there. >> shepard, we're starting to feel the first gusts here in virginia beach. no rain yet. the gusts still not strong enough to drive people inside. still a lot of families walking on the beach. some with small children. really a sense of curiosity here so far. they don't think it's going to pound virginia despite the state of emergency. a lot of people coming out to look at the waves. people on their balconies all along this tourist area looking out wondering how strong this storm is going to get. right now they are expecting the eye to stay 100 miles offshore. they are prepared up to 55 mile-per-hour winds and flooding as well. and some real concern here over a big tourist weekend. several major events scheduled here in virginia beach. a big music concert

-northeast. eventually we'll see it as a trough that's going to bring us that beautiful weather this weekend. a trough is going to pick this storm up and turn it out to sea. the pressure has risen 955 mill ibars. i want to tell you where this storm is going to go within the next 24 hours. there we are as we head further out in time to around 3 p.m. just offshore here of eastern long island and then as we go into friday night, there's boston, cape cod and the islands. it looks like this storm is just going to brush them which is really great news. there was concern they were going to take a direct hit but we're fairly confident now this is not going to be impacting cape cod and the islands like it could have been yesterday. so there's your path again as of 5 a.m. and the bulk of this storm really staying offshore which is great news, not to say we're not going to see the effects of the storm surge, rain, gusty winds. kind of like a nor'easter. this is what earl should be and thank goodness, just a bit of a sigh of relief this morning. >> all my friends are so excited that they're still getting to go on

"the factor" begins right now. >> hi, i'm bill o'reilly. thanks for watching us tonight. the imam behind the 9/11 mosque speaks out and that is subject of this evening's talking points memo writing in "the new york times" today. imam rauf says that the islamic center located near ground zero will proceed but he will make public who is funding it? imam says the community center is a symbol of tolerance and it shows america accepts all religions. he makes some good points. also he doesn't come across as beligerent or unreasonable at all but with all due respect, he is making one very large mistake. right now, there are more than 100 mosques in new york city so there's no religious tolerance issue here. or in most other parts of america. there is, however, a big religious tolerance issue in most muslim countries. as they don't accept any other religion. by placing the proposed mosque within yards of the 9/11 attacks with no stated purpose for that, the imam has created a controversy. he did it. simply no reason for the mosque to be there. and if some 9/11 families object as

'm bill o'reilly. thanks for watching us tonight. once again, fox news underattack. that is the subject of this evening's talking points memo. you may remember about this time last year the white house declared war on fox news. saying that we were irresponsible in our reporting and biased against the administration. i write about that extensively in my new book pinheads and patriots because it actually helped us. our ration went up and the credibility of the administration went down. after a few weeks of that nonsense a truce was declared and business went on as usual. war is being resurrected not by president obama but some of his acolytes. with the election looming the democrats are in a tough spot. the economy ♪ getting much better and the voters are angry. all the polls say the democrats are in deep trouble. so a smoke screen is needed to mask reality, something to drive attention away from the economy and other problems. a few weeks ago the president went after congressman john boehner, the republican. well, that didn't go anywhere. so now some lefties are bringing fox news back

on that cruise in canada? >> he is. >> live in chatham, massachusetts with the latest for us. were you on the cruise with your dad, peter? >> i am not. my dad -- oh, i was on the cruise, yeah, ended up having to fly out to halifax because i was needed here but luckily, tropical storm earl was a lot weaker than originally feared when it ended up coming into massachusetts last night. it was still a very powerful storm until it left the area about two hours ago. take a look at this. >> it's almost midnight here in massachusetts. we're down by the water and hurricane earl has been downgraded to tropical storm earl. you can see the wind and water are still coming in very, very hard. it hurts when it hits you in the face. you look up and you can see that red flag waving behind me. that's how fast the wind is blowing right now and you can see there's a beam from the chatham white house still beaming out light for miles to miles. a lot of people came out to see what was going on. they left the flip-flops here and headed towards the water. they were relying on the beacon to lead them back to

for watching us tonight. stunning new poll on politics in the media that is the subject of this evening's talking points memo. survey done by politico and george washington university asked 1,000 likely voters about the current state of politics and the media in the u.s.a. the results may surprise you. first, 45% strongly disapprove of the job president obama is doing. 35% strongly approve. but personally, this situation is reverse. 47% of likely voters say they strongly approve of the president as a person. just 19% strongly disprove. on the subject of his possible re-election, 44% say they will vote against barack obama the next time around. 38% say he deserves to be reelected. 42% of americans say the president is very liberal. and 41% say the new obama care legislation is terrible. just 18% favor it enthusiastically. so the mood of the country is obviously running strongly against mr. obama's policies. as for the republican party, mitt romney has a 45% favorable rating. 28% don't like him. sarah palin 44% like her. 49% do not. mike huckabee 49% like him. 25% do not. and newt gingric
